Read the new National Health Bill

Quoting Prof Grange, our last Minsiter of Health:

"....the absence of a National Health Act to back up the National Health Policy has been a fundamental weakness which needed to be tackled frontally. This weakness means that there is no health legislation describing the national health system and defining the roles and responsibilities of the three tiers of government and other stakeholders in the system. This has led to confusion, duplication of functions and sometimes lapses in the performance of essential public health functions"

Thanks to Felix Obi, a strong supporter of this blog....we can now make available to you the new National Health Bill as passed by the Nigerian Senate.

The BILL is for your HEALTH. READ IT HERE!

Have a say, pass it round,....don't leave it politicians...

ps...the bill will still be heard by the House of Representatives before it is sent to the president. It only becomes law when it passes these 2 stages.

This bill clearly showed Nigerian what our medical doctros can do.Imagine Medical doctors want to regulate other health care professionals from the back door and tell them the duties they will do.they equally want to use the bill to regulate length and curriculum of other health care professionals.Thank God for sharp people that saw these hidden clauses in the bill and protested.our health system is in shamble since medical doctors took over the leadership of hospital fron trained hospital adminstrators ,that is why in delta state a former commisionner of health ,Dr okowa (incidentally the man want to go to senate to represent us Deltans,he will fail) decided to stop allowance of optometrists because his medical colleagues dont like them.another medical doctor who is the head of hospital mgt board stooped the internship of optometrist in the board giving very funny excuse that will make you wonder if she is educated at all is the type of management you get from medical doctors, but i am happy that soon both of them will land in jail for what they did.this same people want to head the health council permanently.it cannot happen.HEALTH CARE SECTOR WILL BURN TO ASHES IF PASSED.THANK GOD JONATHAN DID NOT SIGN IT.MED. DRS MUST HAVE LEARNT THEIR LESSON BY NOW THAT THEY ARE NOT THE ONLY PROFESSION THAT MAKE UP HEALTH AND OUR SENATORS THAT COLLECT MONEY(LOBBYING) TO BRING THIS TYPE OF BILL SHOULD BE CAUTIONED.

yes, i wonder which type of senators we have,do you know that the ministry of health gave them 10million each for their retreat in ghana for this bill,I am not surprised.Ministry of health as it is now is that of Medical doctors, all the directors are medical doctors, they are blocking other health care group from coming in to the ministry. They failed when leadership was given to them.Thank God for Dr.Okara and others.what a stupid bill. Thank God Jonathan did not sign it.Engr.Tunde

Healthcare reforms is important for the country, especially with the economic downfall. Hopefully, they wouldn't cut the budget to support the health of the needy.

For the interest of Nigerians, President Goodluck Jonathan should sign this bill. Nigerian doctors are bunch of selfish health workers who feel they are more important than others while in the real sense, they are the least. Take away Lab scientists and medical diagnosis becomes dead; take away the nurses and doctors become helpless and hopeless; then take away pharmacists and the health profession becomes non-existent for without drug the health profession has no substance!

I think most Nigerian doctors are mentally sick, and may need urgent psychiatric attention.

You are simply envious of doctors. The medical schools are still admitting so you have an opportunity to become one.

Mehn! This is unnecessary beef. That's how all ds people beef doctors at work. They r naturally. All these other health professions r commonly known as paramedics 'cos they were created to assist the medics. How can they want to turn around n b d boss of who made u relevant. All these should stop and people should rather think about how to put in there best in their to improve the nations economya and well being. Nigeria is not the only country that has a health sector. Wish u guys the best.
